Day 2: Mildura

Drove from Sea Lake to Mildura, with lunch in between at Ouyen. Staying at the Palms Caravan Park. It is quiet and dog-friendly. Quite a contrast to the night before at Sea Lake, but we have power and hot water. Life is all about compromises and balance. We'll probably try to free camp about half of the time as we travel about.
We went to see the Rio Vista Historic House. Mildura has a very interesting history. Two Canadian brothers convinced the Victorian Government of the time to let them irrigate around Mildura and basically start the township. Didn't go well at first, due to a drought. One brother goes home; the other stays around and keeps trying until he finally succeeds many years later. And now there are lots of oranges and grape vines here.
We had to visit Orange World didn't we? What a pity it wasn't open at 7pm. Oh well, we got the photo anyway.

Could have been the perfect family photo...

  2. Farewell beautiful friends! I'm sorry I missed the chance to say a face to face goodbye. The blog is a great idea. Love the pictures too! I recommend stopping at Mungo National Park if you are heading that way. Incredible country! You will also pass the sheep station I grew up on along the way. I still have family there if you want some true outback work experience. It could really hot up the honeymoon, Rob wearing a sweaty bluey, showing off some muscle.....and bum cleavage, whilst shearing an old ewe. I imagine from this description Judith, you are already eagerly rerooting the map on the Gps. I hope you packed a metal detector Rob. If you scout that much of the country it's sure to at least pay for itself! What a wonderful adventure, will come back ever more bonded by the experience......or divorced. No doubt the former : ) You will be greatly missed, but I wish you super fun happy times! Xx Claire
